Suma Modi, a young, Hindu Indian bride discusses her first, bewildering days as a wife and her first days in America with her new Indian husband. She takes a part-time job cooking in the home of an Indian neighbor (the mother of Jaysan in Ep. 5) who is a second-generation Indian and whose teen-aged son acts in an unfriendly, angsty way. Later, after a whole day of a dawning if still dim awareness of differences in class, region, and education level between her idea of India and the ideas of India preserved in her employer’s household, the young bride learns that her new employer is Muslim.
